01 SYNOPSIS
‘Preamble’ | ‘Manifesto’

“I am studying the convergence of memory, death, and time in architectural design because I want to find out how architecture can transcend its physicality to become a symbolic representation of the human experience, effectively memorializing the passage of time and memories. In doing so, I aim to contribute to the creation of spaces that not only enrich our present experiences but also serve as enduring vessels for the collective narratives of our past, fostering a deeper connection between individuals and their environments.”
ChronoMemoria is a visionary architectural concept rooted in the exploration of memory, death, and time. It serves as a non-religious sanctuary where individuals can engage with the interconnectedness of these themes, offering a space for contemplation and introspection. Grounded in the belief that architecture can serve as a vessel for the temporal dimension, my research employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating aesthetics, behavioral dynamics, and philosophical principles.

The driving force behind this endeavor is a dual fascination with the intricacies of death and memories, coupled with a recognition of the inadequacy of addressing the inevitability of death within our societal frameworks. While society celebrates the lives of notable figures through memorials, there is a notable absence of dedicated spaces to commemorate our personal loved ones, leading to a collective struggle to confront the loss. This thesis, therefore, aims to bridge this gap by creating a sanctuary where individuals can interact with the passage of time, access memories, and engage with the profound themes of life and death. Philosophically, ChronoMemoria celebrates life's impermanence and honors the memories of the departed. It is designed as a fluid, dynamic space that blurs the lines between memorial, museum, and public gathering point.

The overarching question guiding this exploration is: "How can architecture serve as a vessel for the temporal dimension, effectively memorializing and embodying the passage of time, memories, and the contemplation of mortality?" This inquiry prompts an investigation into how architectural spaces can transcend their physical existence, becoming symbolic representations of the human experience. It invites contemplation on the integration of materials, forms, and technologies that capture the essence of time and memories within the built environment.

In both its physical and virtual manifestations, ChronoMemoria engages with the essence of existence, providing a space for individuals to find solace, inspiration, and a sense of continuity beyond their own mortality. Through careful orchestration of architectural elements, it invites individuals to navigate a poche of cultural and historical memory, fostering a profound connection between people and their surroundings.
